Acceptable Use & File Upload Policy

01Purpose & Scope

This policy applies whenever you upload, email or otherwise supply a file, image, drawing, link, specification or manufacturing request to 3D Print It Limited.

Its purpose is to support safe, lawful and reliable 3D printing while protecting customers, rights holders, our systems, our staff and the wider community.

We may refuse, pause or cancel work that does not comply with this policy, our other terms or applicable law.

02Your Responsibilities

When submitting content or placing an order, you confirm that:

• the information and instructions provided are accurate and complete;
• you own the content or have all licences, permissions and authority needed to submit and manufacture it;
• our use of the content to provide the requested service will not infringe another person’s rights;
• the file is free from malware, malicious code and intentionally harmful content;
• the requested product and intended use comply with applicable laws, regulations and approvals; and
• you will not misrepresent the design, purpose, end user or intended use.

You remain responsible for the content you provide and the intended use of the resulting product.

03Intellectual Property

You must not submit content that infringes or misuses copyright, trade marks, patents, registered designs, trade secrets, confidential information, privacy rights or other intellectual-property or proprietary rights.

This includes unauthorised counterfeit products, branded replicas, protected characters, logos, replacement parts or commercial designs where permission is required.

We do not provide intellectual-property clearance and are not required to search registers or determine ownership before processing every request. If ownership or permission is unclear, we may ask for evidence or decline the work.

04Limited Licence to Process Files

You retain ownership of intellectual property in content you provide.

By submitting content, you grant 3D Print It a limited, non-exclusive licence to access, copy, analyse, convert, repair, slice, prepare and otherwise process it only as reasonably necessary to:

• review your request and generate a quote;
• assess manufacturability;
• prepare and manufacture the order;
• inspect and verify the finished product; and
• provide customer, reprint, warranty or dispute support.

We acquire no ownership of your design unless separately agreed in writing.

05Confidentiality & Privacy

We recognise that uploaded files may contain confidential, commercially sensitive or personal information. We limit access to people and service providers who reasonably need it to deliver or support the requested services.

Unless authorised by you or required to provide the service, protect rights or comply with law, we will not intentionally publish your design, share it with other customers or use it for our own commercial products.

Standard handling under this policy is not a separate non-disclosure agreement. If your project needs specific confidentiality, security, access or deletion obligations, contact us and complete any written agreement before submitting sensitive files.

Personal information is handled under our Privacy Policy.

06Prohibited Content & Conduct

You must not submit content or request products that we reasonably believe:

• are unlawful or intended to facilitate unlawful activity;
• infringe intellectual-property, privacy, confidentiality or other legal rights;
• are counterfeit, fraudulent, deceptive or intended to enable impersonation;
• contain material prohibited under New Zealand law;
• are intended to defeat security, access-control, identification or public-safety measures;
• contain malware, ransomware, executable threats or other malicious code; or
• could expose our systems, staff, suppliers or other people to an unreasonable risk.

07Weapons & Dangerous Items

3D Print It does not accept requests to manufacture items we reasonably believe are intended to function as weapons or essential weapon components, including:

• firearms, frames, receivers or pressure-bearing firearm parts;
• suppressors, prohibited magazines or weapon-conversion components;
• ammunition, ammunition components or explosive-device components;
• regulated knives, restricted weapons or parts intended to increase a weapon’s harmful capability; or
• items intended to evade firearms controls, detection or other public-safety requirements.

We may refuse any item that presents an unacceptable legal, safety or ethical risk, even where the customer believes possession or manufacture may be lawful. Customer-held licences or permits do not require us to accept an order.

08Props, Cosplay Items & Replicas

Clearly non-functional props, cosplay accessories and display replicas may be considered case by case where they are lawful and do not create an unacceptable safety risk.

You must clearly disclose that purpose before production. We may require design changes or evidence of lawful purpose, and we may refuse a realistic or convertible replica. Acceptance of one prop does not mean similar future items will be accepted.

09Regulated & Safety-Critical Items

Unless expressly assessed, agreed and certified in writing, our products are not supplied for:

• medical implants or regulated medical devices;
• life-support or emergency-rescue equipment;
• aviation or aerospace safety systems;
• structural engineering applications;
• critical automotive or transport safety systems; or
• any application where failure could reasonably cause death, serious injury or major property damage.

You are responsible for identifying regulatory, certification and testing requirements before submitting a request and for obtaining all necessary professional advice and approvals.

10Design Review & Manufacturability

We may review a file to assess whether it can be manufactured using the selected process, material and options.

Unless agreed in writing, that review does not constitute:

• engineering or structural analysis;
• legal or intellectual-property clearance;
• product-safety, regulatory or compliance approval;
• verification of every measurement, clearance or assembly fit; or
• certification that the finished part is suitable for the intended use.

We may identify an obvious concern, but we are not responsible for detecting every design defect or undisclosed risk.

11File Requirements & Security

Files should:

• use a supported format such as STL, 3MF, OBJ or STEP;
• be complete, readable and free from corruption;
• use the correct scale, units and dimensions;
• contain geometry suitable for the requested manufacturing process; and
• exclude executables, scripts, passwords, encryption or unrelated data unless we have agreed to receive them.

We may use automated tools to analyse, preview, repair, convert, scan or price a file. Automated acceptance or quotation does not guarantee that the file is printable, lawful, safe or free from infringement.

If a file cannot be processed safely or manufactured reliably, we may request a replacement, revise the quote or decline the order.

12Right to Refuse, Pause or Cancel

We may refuse, pause or cancel a request where we reasonably believe:

• this policy, our terms or applicable law may be breached;
• ownership, authority, purpose or supplied information is unclear or misleading;
• the file cannot be processed or manufactured safely and reliably;
• additional licences, permits, certifications or approvals may be required; or
• accepting the work would create an unreasonable legal, safety, security or reputational risk.

We may request identification, evidence of rights, intended-use information or other documentation before deciding whether to proceed. We are not required to manufacture an item merely because similar files or products are available elsewhere.

Any payment adjustment or refund will be handled under our Returns & Refund Policy and applicable New Zealand law.

13Reporting Infringement or Other Concerns

If you believe content submitted through our service infringes your rights or otherwise breaches this policy, email us with:

• your name and contact details;
• identification of the protected work, right or relevant concern;
• enough information to identify the affected file, product or order;
• an explanation of the alleged infringement or breach; and
• evidence that you own the right or are authorised to act for the rights holder.

We may suspend processing while we assess a report, request further information, preserve relevant records or take other action reasonably required. We are not a court and are not required to resolve complex ownership disputes between third parties.

14File Retention & Deletion

Uploaded files may be retained while reasonably needed for quoting, order production, support, reprints, warranty matters, dispute handling, security and legal obligations.

We do not provide permanent design-file storage. You must keep your own original and backup copies.

When files are no longer required, they may be deleted or anonymised where reasonably practicable. Deletion from secured backups may occur through normal backup-rotation processes, and we may retain information where law permits or requires it.

Access, correction and privacy requests are handled under our Privacy Policy.

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our services, risks, technology or legal obligations. The latest version and effective date will be published on this page and will apply to future submissions from that date.
