This Acceptable Use & File Upload Policy (“Policy”) applies to all customers who upload files, request quotations, or place orders through https://3dprintit.co.nz (“Website”) or directly with 3D Print It (“we”, “our”, “us”).

By uploading files or using our services, you agree to comply with this Policy.

This Policy should be read together with our Website Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

1. Purpose

Our goal is to provide safe, reliable, and lawful 3D printing services while protecting the rights of our customers, staff, and the wider community.

We reserve the right to refuse, suspend, or cancel any order that does not comply with this Policy or applicable laws.

2. Your Responsibilities

When submitting files or placing an order, you confirm that:

  • you own the design or have all necessary licences, permissions, or legal rights to use it;
  • the design does not infringe another person’s copyright, trademark, patent, registered design, trade secret, or other intellectual property rights;
  • the files are free from malware, viruses, ransomware, or other malicious software;
  • the information you provide is accurate and complete;
  • the requested product complies with all applicable laws and regulations.

You remain solely responsible for the content of any files you upload.

3. Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of your uploaded files and any associated intellectual property.

By uploading files, you grant 3D Print It a limited, non-exclusive licence to:

  • review your files;
  • prepare quotations;
  • manufacture your products;
  • perform quality assurance;
  • provide customer support;
  • fulfil your order.

This licence ends once these purposes have been completed, except where we are required by law to retain records.

We do not claim ownership of your designs.

4. Confidentiality

We understand that uploaded files may contain confidential or commercially sensitive information.

Unless required to fulfil your order, comply with the law, or protect our legal rights, we will not intentionally disclose your designs to third parties.

We recommend that customers seeking additional contractual confidentiality or non-disclosure obligations contact us before submitting files.

5. Prohibited Content

You must not upload files or request products that are unlawful or that we reasonably believe are intended for unlawful purposes.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • counterfeit goods or replicas that infringe intellectual property rights;
  • items that breach copyright, trademark, patent, registered design, or other intellectual property laws;
  • fraudulent or deceptive products;
  • offensive or unlawful material prohibited under New Zealand law;
  • products intended to facilitate criminal activity;
  • malware, viruses, ransomware, or other malicious software embedded in uploaded files.

6. Weapons and Restricted Items

We will not knowingly manufacture products that are prohibited by New Zealand law.

This includes, where applicable:

  • prohibited firearm components;
  • prohibited magazines or firearm accessories;
  • prohibited weapon parts;
  • prohibited knives or other regulated weapons;
  • items intended to evade law enforcement or public safety measures.

We may refuse any order where we reasonably believe the product presents an unacceptable safety, legal, or ethical risk.

7. Safety-Critical Components

Unless expressly agreed in writing, our products are not certified for use in safety-critical applications.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • medical implants or medical devices requiring regulatory approval;
  • life-support equipment;
  • aviation or aerospace safety-critical components;
  • structural engineering applications;
  • critical automotive safety systems;
  • emergency rescue equipment.

Customers are responsible for ensuring that printed products are suitable for their intended use.

8. Design Review

We may review uploaded files to determine whether they are suitable for manufacture.

Our review is limited to assessing manufacturability and does not constitute engineering, legal, safety, or regulatory advice.

We are not responsible for identifying every design flaw, measurement error, or functional issue.

9. File Requirements

To help ensure successful printing, uploaded files should:

  • be complete and printable;
  • contain accurate dimensions;
  • use supported file formats (such as STL, STEP, 3MF, OBJ, or other formats we accept);
  • not contain corrupt or incomplete data.

If files cannot be printed successfully, we may request revised files or cancel the order.

10. Right to Refuse Service

We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to refuse, suspend, or cancel any order where we reasonably believe that:

  • the order breaches this Policy;
  • the requested product is unlawful;
  • the uploaded files infringe intellectual property rights;
  • the files cannot be manufactured successfully;
  • manufacturing the item would expose us to unreasonable legal, safety, or reputational risk;
  • the customer has provided false or misleading information.

Where appropriate, any refund will be handled in accordance with our Returns & Refund Policy and applicable New Zealand law.

11. Reporting Concerns

If you believe that content submitted through our services infringes your intellectual property rights or otherwise breaches this Policy, please contact us with sufficient information for us to investigate.

We may request evidence of ownership or authority before taking action.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, technology, or legal obligations.

The latest version will always be published on our Website with the updated effective date.
